Changes in Canada Super Visa Category :

Changes in Canada Super Visa Category:

Super Visa is for the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and Permanent residents. Previously, a super visa allowed the parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for a period of two years during their first visit without having to leave the country and could extend the Visa for the third year from within Canada.

However, recently introduced enhancements to the super visa program allows the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to visit Canada on a super visa and reside in Canada for a period of five years. Not only that, they also have an option to extend the period of their stay for another two years, which means seven years of continuous stay in Canada. At the end of seven years if they travel out of Canada and return back they can again be eligible for another period of five years making this a great option for the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to reunite with their families.

These new enhancements also allow the applicant to obtain the medical insurance from international designated medical insurance companies and not just Canadian insurance companies as was the case in the past.

Eligibility for Super Visa:

1. Financial requirements:

The Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are inviting their parents or grandparents to Canada must have sufficient income as per the LICO amount. They should have a household income of their respective family size in order to be able to invite their parents or grandparents on a super visa application.

2. Applicant’s ties to home country:

The parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are applying for super visa must be able to show ties to their home country and assure that they have reasons to voluntarily return to their home country after the expiration of the visa.

3. Medical requirement:

The applicants are required to undergo medical assessment to see if they are medically admissible in Canada.

With the implementation of new policy introduced by IRCC, it is now easier for Canadian citizens and permanent residents to get their parents and grandparents into Canada and make them stay in Canada for longer. However, this is still a visit visa/temporary residence visa and not permanent a residence which means they cannot work in Canada for this period of time and get the rights and benefits that workers, students, or permanent residents get.
