SOUTH AFRICA CRITICAL SKILLS VISA:

The critical skills work visa has been programmed by the South African Govt to achieve the objectives of National Development plan(ndp), Industrial Policy Action Plan(ipap) and New Growth Plan(ngp). The critical skills work visa is issued in accordance with the critical skills list. The list was developed in conjunction with the occupations in high demand and the scarce skills lists of the department of higher education and training (dhet).

It is a temporary (independent) work visa available for skilled professionals who have recognized qualifications and work experience in their field of occupation. Not all but the selected professionals (who are listed in Critical Skills List) have the opportunity to apply for this visa. The critical skills list currently (as on 11-04-2017) includes the following occupations:

  • Telecom Professionals
  • Medical Professionals
  • Environmental Professionals
  • Biomedical Professionals
  • Engineering Technicians

Each of the above occupational category may have several sub categories and the applicant is required to understand his/her suitability in the exact sub category before considering applying for it. Each occupation has a South African Professional Body that assess suitability of foreign qualifications and experience for it.
